Dating Service News

""Valentine's Day is the only holiday singly focused on romance and love," said Linda Markt, Honolulu franchise owner of It's Just Lunch, a one-on-one dating service geared toward busy working professionals. 'It's a huge pressure holiday for people.' According to the company's Web site, about 60 percent of Hawaii singles didn't have plans for Valentine's Day as of last week, resorting to spending it at home. Alone. And hating it."

"A sruvey on how single professionals spend their time and money may shed light on why there always seems to be a line at Starbucks. When singles are out 89 percent spend money on gourmet coffee, and 56 percent spend up to $30 a week on alcohol, a study conducted for It's Just Lunch dating service said."

"It was a great date. He promised to call. He never called. The average single woman will stare at the phone, willing it to ring. A long list of possibilities noisily circling her brain…'Ultimately, chemistry is impossible to predict,' said Nancy Kirsch, senior vice president of It's Just Lunch international dating service. But women, she says, are much more prone to second-guessing than men. 'We want to figure it out. We want to fix it.'"

Today's singles are taking modern, proactive steps to improve their dating lives. According to a recent study of 3,968 singles, 48 percent of men and 52 percent of women have used a dating service to increase their odds of meeting someonw special. "It's Just Lunch dating service is putting dating tips in writing with city-specific books, including the [It's Just Lunch] 'Guide to Dating in Honolulu.' The Guide includes flirting tips and lots of lists, such as its picks for O'ahu's best happy-hour spots: Duke's Canoe Club at the Outrigger Waikiki, Hard Rock Cafe on Kapi'olani Boulevard, Gordon Biersch at Aloha Tower Marketplace, Palomino in downtown Honolulu, and Harbor Pub on Ala Moana Boulevard."

"ALANA BEYER, of It's Just Lunch, said that 79 percent of men on a first date can decide within 15 minutes whether or not they want to see a woman again, whereas 64 percent of women take an hour to determine whether they want to see a man again...'Initially, looks are attractive,' Beyer said. But as time passes, she said, they want someone who is happy and enjoys life. 'Someone who is passionate, intelligent and confident,' she said...People definitely need to keep an open mind when seeking a mate, said Beyer. 'Many people take dating too seriously. Dating is supposed to be fun. It's important to keep dating light and casual, especially in the beginning.'"

"It's prom season. Nightmare time for any young man. I know — I was one once. Unlike my brother, who had a girlfriend from kindergarten on, I never really 'dated' in high school. Never had a steady. I was still trying to figure out who I was, but prom season has never cared much about introspection. Come spring, you needed a date, a white dinner jacket and a corsage. And so I fell in line with the rest of the lads. For me, as for many, I suspect, prom night always was first-date night...It's Just Lunch, a national dating service, has just come out with 'must-know' tips for first dates. They translate nicely to prom nights, too. Far too late for me now, of course, but I was curious to see what they were and how close I came to using them to assure my date that oh-so-perfect prom evening."

"First dates may be the most awkward and self-conscious experiences known to humankind. To help manage the stress of a first date and ensure the date's success, Niki McDowell, our source at the dating and introduction service It's Just Lunch, provided a list of 10 Things to Know Before Your First Date. First-daters are advised to memorize this list."
